Who We Are

Our Foundation

SGP Research Foundation is a not-for-profit organization established to spearhead translational, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary research in Ayurveda. We bridge ancient wisdom and modern science to restore health at both individual and societal levels. Our work extends beyond traditional healthcare boundaries. We recognize that true wellness emerges from the intersection of physical health, mental well-being, social determinants, and civic infrastructure. By conducting high rigor research while simultaneously addressing systemic challenges, we create lasting impact across communities.

Vision

A healthier India where physical, mental, and social well-being blend into a unified framework for national

Mission

To conduct high rigor fundamental and translational research in Ayurveda; to intervene decisively in social determinants of health; and to catalyze meaningful civic reform in public health domains through evidence based advocacy and community engagement.

India’s Multifaceted Health Crisis

India faces a complex public health landscape where disease burden intersects with infrastructure failures, behavioral challenges, and systemic gaps. Road safety, mental health, civic behavior, and physical infrastructure don’t merely parallel health concerns4they are fundamental determinants of health outcomes. Understanding this interconnection is crucial for developing comprehensive solutions that address root causes rather than symptoms alone

The Hidden Health Impact of Infrastructure

Beyond Inconvenience: Physical Consequences

Poor road quality represents far more than a daily frustration-it constitutes a chronic health hazard. Repeated mechanical shocks, jolts, and micro-trauma from deteriorated road surfaces contribute systematically to lumbar and cervical spine degeneration. Over months and years, these cumulative impacts manifest as chronic pain, reduced mobility, and compromised quality of life. The psychophysiological toll compounds these physical injuries. Constant anxiety, stress, and hypervigilance while navigating dangerous roads drive sustained physiological strain. This chronic stress aggravates hypertension, increases risk of ischemic heart disease, and contributes to digestive disorders and sleep disturbances. The body cannot distinguish between threat types-poor infrastructure becomes a continuous stressor

The Hafeezpet Road Incident: A Catalyst for Change

“A single incident revealed a systemic crisis4when a safety systems engineer from Germany sustained serious lumbar spine injury not from potholes, but from gaping bore-wells in a Hyderabad road during his treatment journey at SGP.”

This pivotal case starkly illuminated how infrastructure failure serves as a direct catalyst for spinal trauma, chronic pain, and anxiety. A professional dedicated to designing safety-critical systems abroad found himself victim to preventable injury at home. The incident exemplified the bitter irony of India’s development paradox4advanced medical treatment undermined by basic infrastructure neglect.
Beyond the individual tragedy, this case exposed how civic neglect amplifies health crises systemically. Lack of priority for ambulances, traffic indiscipline, and infrastructure failures compound delays in emergency care, directly increasing mortality and morbidity rates. It became a
rallying moment for SGP Research Foundation, crystallizing our understanding that research alone is insufficient. We must intervene socially,
civically, and infrastructurally to create meaningful change

Key Insight: Infrastructure quality is not separate from healthcare4it is a fundamental determinant of health outcomes, injury prevention, and recovery trajectories.

Mental Health: India’s Silent Epidemic

The Scope of the Challenge

India confronts a significant mental health crisis, with the World Health Organization estimating a burden of 2,443 Disability-Adjusted Life Years (DALYs) per 100,000 population. A substantial lifetime prevalence of mental disorders highlights a critical treatment gap, as millions suffer due to stigma, lack of awareness, and insufficient infrastructure and professionals. This represents one of India’s most pressing public health challenges.

Our approach recognizes mental health as inseparable from physical wellness, social conditions, and environmental factors. Psychosomatic connections demand integrated interventions that address mind and body simultaneously

Our Core Programs

SGP Research Foundation operates five integrated programs that address health holistically4from cellular mechanisms to social systems. Each initiative combines rigorous research with direct community intervention, ensuring that scientific insights translate into tangible improvements in people’s lives

Translational Ayurvedic Research

Validating Ayurvedic principles through modern scientific methodology, focusing on regeneration, metabolism, and
immunology.

Road Safety & Infrastructure

Mapping, monitoring, and remediating dangerous road stretches to reduce spinal
injuries and accident impact

Civic & Traffic Sense Initiative

Cultivating public consciousness about traffic rules, ambulance priority, and road etiquette through education and engagement

Tribal Health & Nutrition Outreach

Addressing malnutrition and underserved health needs in tribal areas through culturally appropriate Ayurvedic interventions, health camps, nutritional modules, and training for local health workers. Video documentation ensures knowledge transfer and program refinement

Mental Well-being & Psychosomatic Care

Providing integrated mental health support, awareness programs, and mind-body workshops. Research explores psychosomatic connections while counseling camps and digital outreach extend services to underserved populations across India.

Impact Stories

Real change manifests in individual lives transformed and communities empowered. Our impact extends from clinical interventions that restore mobility and dignity to systemic improvements that make entire communities safer and healthier
